SAP Solution Manager 7.2 – Focused Insight – configuration, part 2/4

One week ago I wrote about installation Focused Insight (ST-OST 200 SP05) in SAP Solution Manager 7.2. This article You can find here.

Today we try configure our Focused Insight (FI). Next in the article I’ll be use shorter name: FI.


First, a few words about the roles which Focused Insight uses.

BI Roles
- SAP_BI_E2E_DISPLAY: This role is used for SMD & E2E authorizations in the SAP Solution Manager System.
- SAP_SM_BI_DISP: This role is used for displaying authorization for BW Reporting display user.

The following roles are delivered for cross-database comparison:
- SAP_CDC_ADMIN: Contains full authorization for all cross-database comparison tasks.
- SAP_CDC_DISPLAY: Contains display-only authorizations for various cross-database comparison tasks, related to comparison objects, instances and results.

After the installation of the ST-OST add-on, the Focused Insights content should be activated. The application FI setup guided procedure is delivered to list and automate Focused Insights activation steps.

After an upgrade or the installation of a new version of the ST-OST add-on, SAP recommend to re-execute the queries and services activation automatic activities.

Ten activities are covered in the FI Setup GP:

  1. Pre-requisites (Manual)
  2. Number Ranges interval creation (Manual)
  3. BW Queries activation (Automatic)
  4. System Alias Creation (Manual)
  5. Activate Services (Automatic)
  6. Schedule Jobs (Automatic)
  7. Content Initialization (Automatic)
  8. Dashboards instance Configuration (Optional)
  9. Cache Configuration (Optional)
  10. Upgrade Content

The following roles are needed to be able to execute the Focused Insights setup guided procedure:

Activate service: WD_DF_SETUP in SICF transaction:

Next open URL:


Step 1: Prerequisites

Open links on the right side

The selected user should have the authorization S_DEVELOP with the following parameters:

  • DEVCLASS’ FIELD /stdf/*
  • OBJNAME’ FIELD /stdf/*

Step 2: Activate Ranges / Interv

Execute SNRO transaction:

  1. Add intervals for /STDF/NB object:

2. Add intervals for /STDF/OPNB object:

3. Add intervals for /STDF/EXT object:

Step 3: Activate Queries



Unfortunately Infocube 0SM_JSM_W is inactive!

How to activate Infocube:

  1. Run RSA1 transaction:

Check above job. After that we do recheck:

Step 4: System Alias Creation

Create System Alias:
Transaction: SM30
table/view: /IWFND/V_DFSYAL

To do others acitivity click on the right side button: “Execute

Step 5: Activate Services

click Execute button on the right side

Generally in this step system activate below services:


Step 6: Schedule Jobs

click Execute button on the right side

OData Services Activation and Services Aliases creation

  1. Execute transaction: /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE and select the /STDF/DFL_SERVICE Service Name, e.g. /STDF/DFL_SERVICE

2. Add a system alias:

3. On the next screen, choose New Entries and fill in the values as shown below:

In column: “Service Doc. identifier” put System Alias Entry for above Service, i.e. /STDF/DFL_Service_0001

In column: “SAP System Alias” put: LOCAL_SM

In column: “Default System” should be checkbox.

4. Save

Repeat the mentioned steps for each Dashboard with selecting each time the corresponding service name and the system alias entry.
